history of dragon ball gt

When dragon ball z was ending toei animation the company that animates dragon ball wanted to keep the series going despite there being no more manga to animate. Toei animation went to akira toriyama the creator of dragon ball to ask him if they can make their own dragon ball anime and if he could help with some designs for this new anime. Akira toriyama said yes to both things but wasn't involed with dragon ball gt's production outside of the design for some of the characters which means dragon ball gt isn't canon (never happened in the dragon ball timeline). When dragon ball gt came out people didn't like it as much as og dragon ball or dbz because the animation quality was noticeably worse. They also sidelined most of the characters in favor of more screen time for goku heace why some people say the gt in dragon ball gt stands for goku time. Despite this there were some good things gt did like introducing super saiyan 4 and the shadow dragons arc was a cool concept but it was not enough for people to change their minds about gt. The only time gt gets some love is in the dragon ball games.
